[gregoryuconn] Boo Team, Boo!

Postby gregoryuconn » Tue Sep 25, 2018 12:50 am

Why would the fans in the basketball arena boo one of the best players in the history of the team? And why was she happy about it?

This puzzle seems familiar. Is it the same one that was posted a few years ago about fans yelling at players as they ran onto the court?

So the player was happy she was being booed?
Were the fans fans of her/her team? Was this happening while she was playing? On the bench? During an interview or press conference? Was she present? Was she part of the audience? (Trying to see if I have any false assumptions...)
Were the fans booing the player because she was playing poorly? Because she was displaying bad sportsmanship? Was she protesting in some way?

Is knowledge of basketball and/or the USA required for this puzzle?

So the player was happy she was being booed? In a way.
Were the fans fans of her/her team? Mostly. Was this happening while she was playing? On the bench? During an interview or press conference? No and FA to these. Was she present? Yes. Was she part of the audience? (Trying to see if I have any false assumptions...) You do have a false assumption but this isn't it.
Were the fans booing the player because she was playing poorly? Because she was displaying bad sportsmanship? Was she protesting in some way? No to all and FA.

Someone posted a puzzle a while back about a good player running onto the court, and when her name was announced the crowd would yell, "Sucks!" I can't recall how the solution went, but the puzzle statement was very similar to this one.

Is the person being booed a current player on the team? A person who played for the team previously?

Is the person being booed a current player on the team? No. A person who played for the team previously? Yes.

So did she change cities/teams and the fans are booing her for her lack of loyalty?
Did the audience say something specific, or was it just generic boos/taunts/jeers?
Was she the referee?

Does the booling indicate that she is: very good? Very famous? Notorious? Has achieved something she wanted?

Did the audience say something specific, or was it just generic boos/taunts/jeers? Generic boos.[
Was she the referee? No, same FA.

Did she play basketball? A variant of it? Another ball sport? A different sport entirely? Is she an actor who played the athlete in a role?

Is a basketball game going on? Something else related to basketball? Perhaps a Hall of Fame induction? Is another sport being played?

I think you missed mimsy’s question about whether knowledge of basketball or the US is relevant. Is it? Did she play in the WNBA? At the collegiate level? Internationally? Is this team based in the US? Modern day?

Did she play basketball? At some point, yes, but see next questions. A variant of it? Another ball sport? A different sport entirely? Is she an actor who played the athlete in a role? No to these.

Is a basketball game going on? NO! There's your FA. Something else related to basketball? No, except for the fact that she was involved in it. Perhaps a Hall of Fame induction? Not this. Is another sport being played? No.

I think you missed mimsy’s question about whether knowledge of basketball or the US is relevant. Is it? Only very basic, see next questions. Did she play in the WNBA? Yes but not relevantly. At the collegiate level? Yes, this is the only level of play that's relevant. Internationally? I believe she played in the Olympics, but this is not relevant. Is this team based in the US? Yes. Modern day? Relatively.

Is she a speaker at an event? The bad guy in a pantomime? Has she just said something that she thought would get boos? Is she delivering a commencement address? A graduation speech?

Does she get booed because she has said something offensive? Because she is introducing somebody the audience doesn’t like? Is Halloween relevant? Traditions at the school of which she is an alum? Was her nickname when playing relevant? Does the school have a relevant mascot? Or team name? Is it relevant what her degree was?

Is whoever boos her genuinely upset?

Is she a speaker at an event? Yes. The bad guy in a pantomime? No. Has she just said something that she thought would get boos? Yes. Is she delivering a commencement address? Yes. A graduation speech? See previous question - she's the keynote speaker, not the one graduating.

Does she get booed because she has said something offensive? That's not the term I'd use, no. Because she is introducing somebody the audience doesn’t like? No. Is Halloween relevant? No. Traditions at the school of which she is an alum? No. Was her nickname when playing relevant? No. Does the school have a relevant mascot? Or team name? Is it relevant what her degree was? No to these.

Is whoever boos her genuinely upset? It was more lighthearted jeers than genuine rage, most likely.

Did she mention a rival team? Another disliked person or group? Did she reference a past event in her career or of the school?

Did she graduate from that college? Play basketball in college?

Did she make a reference to the team? To the faculty? The school in general?

Did she profit from the audience booing her? If so, financially? Does her happiness outlast the speech?

Something that happened recently? Yes but see next question. Some recently published news? But it wasn't "news.".

Did she make a reference to the team? To the faculty? The school in general? No to all.

Did she profit from the audience booing her? Yes. If so, financially? Yes. Does her happiness outlast the speech? Irrelevant.
