[Nimue] Delayed Reaction

Postby nimue » Tue Jan 08, 2019 6:33 pm

At a diversity training workshop at her workplace, Julia made a suggestion that was very well received at the time but got her into big trouble a few months later, even though nothing had changed in the culture. How come?

Welcome back.

Is Julia’s ethnicity relevant? Her religion? Gender? Does the diversity training have to do with any of the above?

Was her suggestion well received in that it was a useful suggestion that was implemented? In that it garnered laughter? Was it a suggestion like, “let’s call this meeting adjourned and go to the bar”?

Is Julia's job relevant? Her Position on the job? Is she a manager?

Was Julia's suggestion well-intentioned in the first place? Or did she have a hidden agenda? Was the trouble she got into justified?

Did Julia make the suggestion again a few months later, at which point she got in trouble? Was the suggestion implemented a few months later, which triggered her getting in trouble? Was it implemented earlier, but some negative aspect became apparent after a few months? Did something happen than caused people to remember her suggestion? Was her suggestion picked up elsewhere, eg by the media?

Was her suggestion meant to be a suggestion on improving diversity? Was her actual aim to benefit herself? Decrease diversity? Discriminate against a certain group of people?

Nimue! We missed you!

Was media publication a relevant issue (for example, the news discovering the use of something new and controversial)?

Did the negative aspect slowly build, or appear suddenly several months later? Did people lose their jobs? her employer lose business?

So excited for more Nimue puzzles!

Did her suggestion involve diversity at all? Training? Meetings in general?

Did she suggest that something should be done away with? That everyone should do something? That she should do something? Perhaps spearhead a new project?

Did the training involve how to interact with the media? Or with the public in general? Did it involve how to read/take in media?

Did Julia suggest that they should be trained to say a specific thing? Avoid saying a specific thing? Act in a certain way? Does the training involve learning to do something new? Does it involve a task directly related to their work?

The negative effects were not obvious until a few months later...was it the case that every time the suggestion was implemented, it ran the risk of incurring negative effects, but avoided doing so for a few months? Or that every time it occurred, it made the situation a little bit worse until it was finally noticed? Or maybe that the suggestion was not implemented at all for a few months?

Did it reference a fictional aspect of a real person? A fictional or likely fictional event that involved real people? An anecdote/"fact" about which the truth is unknown?

Did her suggestion have the effect of revealing that her trainers/co-workers did not know that something was fictional/anecdotal?

Did she suggest that they celebrate someone? If so, someone mythological? A character in a book? Or maybe celebrate something falsely claimed about a real person, e.g. George Washington having wooden teeth?

Is a holiday involved? A _________ Appreciation Day/Week/Month?

Was the fictional event a single occurrence? Was it something that happened multiple times but could be tied together, such as Robin Hood's activities? Was it claimed to have happened in the 21st century? 20th? 19th? Can I invoke a list of centuries?

Hi Nimue! So glad to have you back! I've just found the puzzle, and am having difficulty putting what we know already together - may I request a Recap?
