[WiZ] Uncomplimentary

Postby WiZ » Tue Apr 02, 2019 11:30 pm

A waiter brings a complimentary drink to a table. He has chosen an appropriate drink, but he immediately regrets his action. Why?

Has anyone at the table asked for a drink? If so, this one? Does he bring it as an apology? As a gesture of appreciation? In celebration? To flirt?

Does he regret it because he realizes it will make someone angry? Upset? Confused? Did he make a mistaken assumption? Is he revealing something that someone at the table doesn't know? Does he personally know anyone at the table?

Has he brought an alcoholic beverage? A relevantly expensive one? One for a child?

Would a different drink be more appropriate? No complimentary drink at all? Would the drink be fine if it weren‘t free? Money relevant? Could one interpret the free drink as a bribery attempt?

Was the patron sad, but other people were happy? WAG: there were free drinks to celebrate the local team winning the championship, but our hero was a supporter of the rivals?

Do the mixed emotions have to do with drinks in any way? With money? Maybe an issue involving clean drinking water? Any political issue? Any medical issue?

Is a relevant event occurring at the restaurant? Are the guests at the table just coming from a relevant event? If so, a funeral? Any other commemoration of a dead person? Does the person receiving the drink have a dead loved one? If so, a parent?

Does the waiter think the guest is thirsty? Does he think the guest will be toasting? Does he think having a drink, or this particular drink, would be meaningful for the occasion?

Any relevant language misunderstanding ? Is a specific word/expression used when toasting relevant? like Slainte , Mazel Tov, Cheers, Bottoms Up?

Did the waiter spot that the patron didn't have a drink in front of them?

Does the patron have a medical or physical issue?

Was it a Celebration of Someone's Life? A combination celebration/funeral reception? A canceled wedding? Because the bride or groom got cold feet? Or cheated on their partner? Or some other scandalous revalation? Did someone die at an unrelated celebration? Was it a funeral reception for someone they all hated but at the same time he's dead so it's kind of awkward to celebrate that? Was it a funeral reception for someone who was executed?

Does the waiter think he is bringing a drink for the dead parent? Not realizing they are dead? Is there a seat reserved for the dead person? Does the child of the deceased (or someone else?) say something that clues the waiter in to the dead person's favorite beverage, without making it clear that person is dead? Or does someone say something to indicate the dead person is thirsty?
