[Hobbsicle] Goodnight Noises Everywhere (THWACK!)

Postby Hobbsicle » Fri Jan 10, 2020 6:07 pm

One summer night, a man grabs his keys, turns off the lights in his house, goes out to his driveway and starts his car. He then gets out of his car and goes back inside for a few minutes. Finally, he goes back outside once more, shuts off the car, returns to his house and gets ready for bed. He does not change his plans during any of this, so what is he doing?

Does he run it for the noise? Exhaust? Fuel consumption? Heat? AC? Light? Battery charge? Battery drain of the starter motor? To make a point? Annoy someone? Trick someone? Did he hope to attract a car thief? Does he live alone? Pets relevant? Would it work if he ran the car for one minute? Ten? A hundred? Has he done this before? Will he do this again? Edit: is he H? A?

Light: high beams? Low beams? Parking lights? Blinkers? Hazard blinker? Fog lights? Rear lights? Brake lights? Cabin lights? Other lights? Does he run it in order not to drain the battery? Could he get the same effect by not running it, but charging the battery? Does he want the lights in order to see something? To blind? To be seen? To confuse? Mislead? Is he doing an experiment? Test? Prank?

One summer night, --> was it relevantly summer? Could this happen in winter as well?

was he relevantly alone in the house? Did he relevantly live with someone? Had it happen in the middle of the day would it have worked? Only because there would have been sunlight? Was something happening inside the house while he was outside starting the car? Relevant where the lights of the car we're directed (i.e. where the front of the car pointed)? If so: inside the house? Toward another house? Toward another car? To the corner of the street? to the end of the street? somewhere else relevantly (e.g. the car was on a tow truck)?

While he was inside the house (after having started the light first) did someone come to his car? Did something relevantly happen outside the house? Inside? Had there been moonlights would the puzzle still work? Had he not gone inside his house as soon as he turned on the light would the puzzle still work? Had he not been in his house and car parked in a generic driveway (e.g. the one of a friend) would the puzzle still work?

Mislead? Yesish --> someone? An animal? Someone that expected that he was inside the car when lights were on? Had the car been inside an opened garage would the puzzle still work? were there other cars? was his car parked? between two cars? On the side of the. street? Relevant? Mislead = let someone think that he was inside the car? produce a relevant shadow? did he want someone to think that he forgot the lights on? So that maybe he had the excuse to go outside of the house in a specific moment? And maybe meet someone?

Were there relevantly noises (e.g. music) in the nearby? Did he want that someone thinks that something (e.g. noises?) come from his car and not from somewhere else?

Are his action directed at someone? If so, a specific person? Whomever might observe them? Someone who only sees some of them? Drivers? Pedestrians? Neighbour(s)?

Did he want to attract insects? Yes Birds? Mammals? Mosquitoes? Not these does he want to attract them/it in order to: confuse? Yes Kill? This Help? Remove from other place? Feed predator? Deprive predator of food?

I feel the pieces are there, it would just be ironing out specifics, so...

***********SPOILER***********

The man’s house had been overrun with annoying flies, so he turned off all the lights, went to his car, and turned it on, pointing the headlights onto the front window, attracting the flies there. He went back inside, er, silenced the flies, and then turned off the car and went to sleep.

Cant say I’ve tried this one weird trick, but the flies have been a big problem here in Texas over the last few summers. We essentially use this strategy in the daytime when we turn off the lights and close all the curtains except one.

Good job to Earnest and Galfisk for exterminating this one quickly.
