[Balin] That's not in the script (*EMPTY*)

Quentin wanted to avoid a minor annoyance. The world has never been the same since. Why?

BOATS, and I suspect some of you may know this one. Caveat earlispoilor.

Indirectly or directly led to a product coming into existence? Inspired someone else to create or improve something that did or didn't already exist?

If we split all of time into pre-invention and post-invention, would pre-invention people have been able to watch the same videos but in another online format? Or another context (via renting from Blockbuster vs. streaming, for example)? Not have been able to watch the vids at all?

Was the annoyance related to videos? To having to leave the house to watch them? Or pay for a certain service?

Was his invention, itself, a means of transmitting video over the Internet? or was it a more basic piece of software that only later was used to send video? If so, maybe it (the invention) even happened before the Internet itself existed?

Is the title relevant? If so, is Javascript relevant? Something like it? Maybe he invented a programming language that evolved into ActionScript in Flash, which was used for most web animations until HTML5 took over?

Do we need to find out more about the annoyance? About the inventor? About the changes to the world? Did he invent it for his own use? For a specific person or group? A company? As part of his job? Was he annoyed with another type of camera? The lack of a camera? Complications with getting moving images from a camera into a computer? Onto the web? Edit: was he exchanging video messages with someone, but wanted to talk in real time? Was he speaking with someone but wanted to see them as well?

Yes! quantities of snacks in the vending machine?

****SPOILER****

Tired of heading to the break room for a cup of coffee only to find the pot empty, Drs. Quentin Stafford-Fraser and Paul Jardetzky set up a camera, accessible on the company server, that would monitor how much (if any) was left. Thus they invented the webcam, all because they wanted to make sure there was coffee in the pot.
