[Balin] Truth to tell (*TRULY*)

Postby Balin » Wed Oct 07, 2020 12:41 am

In an attempt to get out of trouble, Logan tells Beth a statement that is literally true but intentionally misleading. It doesn't work, and Logan gets in trouble. But Beth is not the one who gets Logan into trouble. How?

Logan = H/A/M? H/C/M?
Beth = H/A/F?

Is Beth in a position of power/authority in relation to Logan? If so, is she his boss? teacher? professor? parent? other relative?

Does Logan tell the statement face-to-face? On the phone? On skype/zoom? Is the statement spoken? written? Does anyone overhear the statement?

were they playing a game? trouble = life danger? financial danger? Is Logan trying not to be discovered? Is Logan a criminal? Did he commit a crime?
Was the statement a question? An information given to Beth? Is the statement about Logan directly? About something that Logan did in the recent past/would like to do/has done in the past/will do? Did Logan report a news? Report the words of someone else? Quote someone? Was the statement about a quote? An object? Something that also Beth was seeing? Was the statement meant to distract Beth? Is the fact that the statement was literally true but misleading relevant? Did the statement lead to think to a danger as being imminent while it was not in reality? (e.g. he screamed that ice is melting, which is true in Arctic, but since there was a mountain full of ice in the nearby it sounded as if an avalanche was imminent)

Did Beth hear the statement? Did she understand it? Did she read to it?

Was Logan in trouble with Beth? With someone else? With someone specifically?

Is Beth a doctor? a dentist? a dental hygienist? a nurse? a school nurse? a vet? a phlebotomist? a physical/occupational/speech therapist?
Does the scenario take place at a hospital? a doctor's office? a school?

Is Logan relevantly sick? chronically ill? hurt? Is someone else relevantly sick or hurt?
Relevant how old Logan is exactly? If so, younger than 3? 3-5? 6-9? 10-13?

Is the statement an answer to a question? If so, a question about Logan's health/lifestyle habits (e.g. "How often do you floss?" or "How much candy do you eat?")?

Did Logan tell Beth the truth after that she asked?

Logan tells Beth a statement that is literally true but intentionally misleading--> did he tell Beth that he fall, which was misleading since it seemed that her was covering someone who punched him? Is the misleading part ambiguous? If so, is it ambiguous because of Logan's tone? Because of Logan's way to say it? Regardless of his tone?
Was Logan injured? sick? Is COVID relevant? A misleading sentence related to COVID (e.g. that "he was positive?")? Maybe he said that he got lost (which was tru since he and his mum got lost. He simply avoided to tell that he got lost with his mum)?
Misleading = he avoided to tell something important?

It doesn't work = Beth did not believe him? Beth did not find the sentence misleading? Beth understood the situation? Beth saw his parents?

Did Logan notice that Beth works in health industry (or maybe he noticed that she was in a car with sirens and exchanged her for a police woman)? Did he recognize her? If so, did he intentionally go to her to tell her the truth? Or he would have told her regardless of her profession?

Is Beth a doctor? a dentist? a dental hygienist? This ("dentist" works too) a nurse? a school nurse? a vet? a phlebotomist? a physical/occupational/speech therapist?
Does the scenario take place at a hospital? a doctor's office? This, see above a school?

Is Logan relevantly sick? chronically ill? hurt? No to these Is someone else relevantly sick or hurt? No
Relevant how old Logan is exactly? No If so, younger than 3? 3-5? 6-9? 10-13? He's most likely 10 or older

Is the statement an answer to a question? Yes If so, a question about Logan's health/lifestyle habits Yes (e.g. "How often do you floss?" Yes... or "How much candy do you eat?")?

Did Logan tell Beth the truth after that she asked? His answer is the literally true/intentionally misleading statement

Logan tells Beth a statement that is literally true but intentionally misleading--> did he tell Beth that he fall, which was misleading since it seemed that her was covering someone who punched him? No Is the misleading part ambiguous? Yes If so, is it ambiguous because of Logan's tone? No Because of Logan's way to say it? No Regardless of his tone? No

Misleading = he avoided to tell something important? Yes

It doesn't work = Beth did not believe him? Yes, but there's more Beth did not find the sentence misleading? No Beth understood the situation? DOYD of "understood" Beth saw his parents? Yes, but that's not why it doesn't work

Did Logan notice that Beth works in health industry Yes (or maybe he noticed that she was in a car with sirens and exchanged her for a police woman)? Did he recognize her? Not personally If so, did he intentionally go to her to tell her the truth? No Or he would have told her regardless of her profession? No

So, the question was how often Logan flossed? Did he say "regularly", which is true insofar that he regularly flosses once a year right before his dentist appointment? But misleading insofar as most people would understand it to mean "daily" or at least several times a week? Fortnite floss dance relevant? Did he say he flosses daily, meaning he does the Fortnite dance on a daily basis?

Was something wrong with his teeth? his gums? Did the state of his teeth/gums indicate that he does not floss often enough?

So, the question was how often Logan flossed? Yes Did he say "regularly", which is true insofar that he regularly flosses once a year right before his dentist appointment? But misleading insofar as most people would understand it to mean "daily" or at least several times a week? No, but... Fortnite floss dance relevant? ...Yes... Did he say he flosses daily, meaning he does the Fortnite dance on a daily basis? ...Got it.

Was something wrong with his teeth? Yes his gums? Did the state of his teeth/gums indicate that he does not floss often enough? Yes

****SPOILER****

Beth is Logan's dental hygienist. He tells her that he flosses daily, a technical truth as he plays Fortnite frequently and so does the "floss" dance on a daily basis. But Beth finds a cavity in Logan's teeth and so knows he is lying, and Logan gets in trouble with his parents for not flossing.
