[Doriana] Pillow, pillow on the wall

Postby Doriana » Thu Feb 04, 2021 12:15 pm

Ralph's (H/A/M) new roommate Nelson (H/A/M) moves in. Two weeks later, they duct tape a pillow to the wall. Why?

True story, slightly embellished

Does Nelson snore so terribly? Is the neighbor complaining about the noise? :)
But anyway: is the pillow to dim noise? to protect someone from hitting against the wall? to protect some object from getting damaged?
Is the pillow close to the floor? at eye level? near the ceiling?
Did Nelson bring in the pillow? Is it just that they now have too much pillows and don't know where to store them?
Is the pillow permanently at the wall?
Is it ever to be removed? (as long as Nelson is living there)

But anyway: is the pillow to dim noise? to protect someone from hitting against the wall? This to protect some object from getting damaged?
Is the pillow close to the floor? This at eye level? near the ceiling?
Did Nelson bring in the pillow? Irrel Is it just that they now have too much pillows and don't know where to store them? No, but this could be the next big life hack: "No storage space? No problem! Just tape your stuff to your wall!"
Is the pillow permanently at the wall? Yes
Is it ever to be removed? (as long as Nelson is living there) No

Is the pillow there to protect Nelson? Ralph? Someone else? Multiple people? A pet? Is Nelson blind?

Does it protect people from tripping and falling where the pillow is? Hitting their feet/knees against the wall? Something else? Did someone relevantly have an accident with the wall before the pillow was put there?

Is Nelson himself the reason the pillow has to be there? Was there a relevant change to the room's layout as a result of Nelson moving in?

Does it protect people from tripping and falling where the pillow is? Hitting their feet/knees against the wall? No to these Something else? Yes (not "people" though as we've established that it's protecting a pet) Did someone relevantly have an accident with the wall before the pillow was put there? Yes

Is Nelson himself the reason the pillow has to be there? Yesish Was there a relevant change to the room's layout as a result of Nelson moving in? Yesish

Did Nelson bring the pet? Is it a cat? dog? rodent? bird?
Is it an ordinary brick and mortar wall?
Is there something under the pillow (except for the wall)? like a mirror? a power outlet? some structure that could hurt the pet when it runs into it?
Is the pet running around freely in the room?
or is the pillow rather indirectly protecting the pet? (like preventing an aquarium from breaking)
Is there more than one pet in the apartment?

Is there something behind the pillow besides the wall itself? Was the issue that the cat kept running into the wall and hitting its head?

Does the cat suffer from some medical issue? Is something about its physical characteristics or breed relevant? Would this be a problem with any cat? Most cats?

Was the cat sensing something on the other side of the wall? Rats? Other animals?

Was the cat chasing something in the room? (sun speckles?)
Was the cat running away from something?
Did the layout of the room change significantly after Nelson moving in?
Does the room have a window? is the cat using this window to get in and out?
Any of the following relevant: Nelson's hobbies? his professional interests? his habits? work schedule?

Apoligies if this has been asked , was there something there on the wall that has been removed before the pillow was attached? Is the distance to the floor relevant? Does Nelson's hobby involce specialist equipment ? Clothing? Is it unusual ? Considered dangerous? something that is normall done indoors? is the cat's hunting instinct relevant? The cat previously hit itself of the wall correct? If so when it was hungry?

Is the cat targetting that section of wall? or does it inadvertently hit thar part of the wall on it's way to somewhere else? Is it turning when it hits it and can't make the turn without hitting the wall. Does Nelson's hobby make the footing in the house more precarious?

Does the object the cat is chasing hit the wall? and so, the cat, because it's chasing it, too?
Does the cat hit the wall only in this one place? or do they have only one pillow and put it to the most dangerous place?
Is the object moved around quite fast? does the cat chase it when it occasionally falls down?
Is Nelson's hobby related to juggling? or maybe, yoyo? diabolo?

Because Nelson brought it? Correct Is this thing meant for cats to chase? Being chased by cats is not its primary purpose Are any other cats relevant? No Is Nelson playing with the cat Yes in order to bond with it, so that it will accept him? No

Quick RECAP: Nelson and Ralph tape a pillow to the wall to prevent Ralph's cat from hurting itself when running/sliding into the wall. The cat runs into the wall because it chases after an object. The object was brought by Nelson and is related to his hobby, which is something between a sport and a game.

Is it a slot car? YES!

********SPOILER********

Ralph's new roommate Nelson is into slot car racing. The guys soon discover that Ralph's cat enjoys chasing the cars, so they set up a track in their apartment and have the cat race the slot cars. After the cat slams head-first into the wall, they duct tape a pillow to the wall to prevent future accidents.
