Hi all, a quickie i'm sure

A man is stting in his car waiting patiently at a level crossing. Despite not being overly inconvienced and being in no particular hurry he suddenly starts thumping his steering wheel in anger and frustration. A few swear words are thrown in for good measure. Whats going on?

Am I correct to assume that he's waiting for a train to pass? If so, is he getting angry and frustrated before the train passes? While the train passes? Are his anger and frustration caused by something he sees? something he hears?

Time of day relevant? Weather relevant?
Relevant where he's coming from? Where he's going?
Is he alone in the car? Is he transporting anything relevant in his car?

Believe or not but Brighton racecourse on the south coast of England has a level crossing just after the finishing line. A public road crosses the track there and when a race is on traffic has to wait until the horses have passed the line before being allowed to continue. The driver in the this case is a gambler who watches in dismay as his horse trails in last leading to his outburst of temper.
