[Doriana] How many roads

Postby Doriana » Sat Feb 13, 2021 1:27 pm

Ryan (H/A/M) asked Nina (H/A/F) a question. Nina took it as a compliment, but to me it revealed that Ryan hadn't been paying attention.

Does this happen in an acedemic setting? Is Nina a teacher?

Did Nina misunderstand Ryan's question? Did she assume it was a rhetorical question when it wasn't? Did she answer it in the way Ryan expected her to?

Did he ask her the question in person? Relevant?

Were you present when the question was asked? When it was answered? Is Zoom relevant? Are Ryan and Nina still alive? Are they historical figures? Are they coworkers of yours? Co-students with you? Are they coworkers of each other? Are either of them related to you? Do you know them personally?

Is the question to do with work?

Did she take it as a compliment to her: looks? Skills? Actions? Personality? Did he know she took it as a compliment? Did he intend for her to take it that way? Not paying attention to: her? Someone else? Something else? Something said? Written? An action? Was he expected to pay attention? Was he in the process of learning something? Was she teaching something? Showing something? Making a point? A presentation? Were other people also expected to pay attention?

Was the question meant seriously? (i.e. did he expect an honest and informative answer?) or, rather, a colloquial question, like "how are you"?
Did Ryan know the answer before asking? Did he expect a specific answer?
Did something Nina said or did before already imply the answer to this question?
If Ryan had paid more attention, would he not have asked this question? would have asked a different question?
Were Ryan and Nina in a 1:1 conversation?

Nina and I have similar but relevantly not the same jobs, he has a different job Are her looks related to her job? Only indirectly Is her face relevant? Hair? Clothing? All could be relevant, but probably mostly her face

Natural facial features relevant? Makeup? Some specific part of the face? Smiling? When he was not paying attention, was she speaking to: both of you? Only him? Did she relevantly ask anything? Was what she said related to looks in any way? If so, his? Her own? Yours?

So, Nina, Ryan and you were in a conversation about a job-related topic?
Nina said something to Ryan? to him specifically? or maybe this was a lecture and Ryan one of the students?
Ryan asked Nina a question? which Nina took as a compliment? although it was not meant that way in the first place?
Nevertheless, she answered the question truthfully?
But Ryan could have already known what he asked, if he had paid more attention to what Nina had said before?
The compliment is related to Nina's looks? mainly to natural facial features of her?
Was the compliment related to Nina's eyes? nose? mouth? cheeks? teeth? hair? the face as a whole? her facial expression? her smile?

Nina said something to Ryan? to him specifically? Yes to these or maybe this was a lecture and Ryan one of the students? No
Ryan asked Nina a question? which Nina took as a compliment? although it was not meant that way in the first place? Yes to all
Nevertheless, she answered the question truthfully? Yes, but her answer also made it clear that she had understood it as a compliment
But Ryan could have already known what he asked, if he had paid more attention to what Nina had said before? Yes
The compliment is related to Nina's looks? mainly to natural facial features of her? Not directly, but her looks probably played a role
Was the compliment related to Nina's eyes? nose? mouth? cheeks? teeth? hair? the face as a whole? her facial expression? her smile? None directly

Does he ask about something she: is? Does? Enjoys? Is a double meaning relevant? Such as "working out" meaning physical exercise or methodically solving a problem?

RECAP: Ryan, Nina and I were having a work-related conversation. Ryan asked Nina a question that could be understood as a compliment about her looks, but the question didn't reference them directly. The question was about what she is (at work) and it showed that he hadn't paid attention to what Nina had said earlier.

Did she take it as a compliment because: she thought he had heard what she already said, and so was not asking about it? Because she thought he was distracted by her looks? Because she misunderstood the question? Is wordplay relevant?

Was he asking her about a project/task she was working on?

Do you have seniority at work over Nina? in a direct chain? immediate superior?
Do you have seniority at work over Ryan? in a direct chain? immediate superior?
Does Nina have seniority at work over you? in a direct chain? immediate superior?
Does Ryan have seniority at work over you? in a direct chain? immediate superior?
Does Nina have seniority at work over Ryan? in a direct chain? immediate superior?
Does Ryan have seniority at work over Nina? in a direct chain? immediate superior?

Was Ryan's question about Nina's job role? or presume her having a particular job role/responsibility? that she had? that you had?
Does Ryan's question (or the asking of it to Nina) presume something about the relative seniority of you and Nina?

Did Nina take the question as a compliment about her youth? experience? work ethic? health? self-presentation?
Would Nina still likely believe the question was a compliment if she recalled what she had said earlier? and believed Ryan to have heard it?

Did Ryan feel his question was answered by Nina's response? Did he understand she had taken it as a compliment?
