[Balin] Nothing terrible happens in this one

Postby Balin » Thu Sep 12, 2019 12:31 am

A man leads a child out of a room. Seconds after she leaves the room, she screams. She had barely spoken while in the room, so why the scream?

Do the man and child have a relevant relationship? Is he the child's father/guardian or older relative? Is he a teacher? Doctor? Some kind of [social] scientist?

Is the location relevant? Does it happen in the man's home? The child's? A school? A medical centre/hospital? A lab?

Is the child screaming due to a strong emotion? If so, are they scared? Delighted? Have they been asked to scream? Does the child scream on purpose, or prompted by anything other than a genuine emotional reaction?

Does the child scream because of something she saw? Heard? Realised? Does the child consider this in conjunction with something she saw or heard while in the room? Had she wanted to scream while in the room, but couldn't or wouldn't?

Was the man in the room with the child for a long period? Did he relevantly say something to her? Do something with her? Is the child's age relevant? Her general level of intelligence and awareness?

Can we trust the puzzle title?

She = The child? Are any other people in the room relevant? Any other people outside the room?

Does the man expect the child to scream?

Religion relevant? Culture?
Is her scream justified by a real situation if danger? Is halloween relevant? Was she blindfolded in the room? Was the room dark? Did she scream at first beut then calmed down? If so because she realized something relevant? Are decibels relevant? Units of measurament? When she exited the room, did she enter another room? Similar to the previous one?
Are amousement parks relevant? Was the man doing his job? Was he related to the child?

When going outside of the room, did she see: someone with a costume? Someone she had seen previously? Someone with a relevant tool she feared? Herself in a mirror?

Did she trust the man? Did she know him? Did he prevent her to scream in the room?

To be sure: was she able to see the man in the room? Or maybe she screamed when outside of the room because of the man (e.g. she felt that someone was chasing her).
Was she in the room from a long time? Was the room familiar to her?

Was she part of a group? Was people outside of the room part of her group? Or maybe accomplices of the man? Was a criminal activity going on? Did the child expect something bad to happen? An execution? Someone's death? Her death? Would an adult have had the same fear reaction as she had?

To be sure? Was it night time? Relevant? Relevant in which room she entered when she screamed? Bedroom? Bathroom? Generic room? A room that she expected to be empty? Was the room where she entered identical to the previous one? Was it a conventional room? Are mirror relevant? Was the man in the room just following her? Leading to the other room? If so with an excuse? Was the girl upset in the first room? Quiet? Angry? Afraid? If so was she afraid to see what she saw in the room? Afraid for something else (e.g. a punishment)?

Did the man work in entertainment industry? As a teacher? Are paintings relevant?

Was she scaried by the scary costume of the people on the other side? By the man who was inside the previous room with her? (E.g. he wore a mask? If so, the same mask that also the others inside the room were wearing? Did she think that everyone transformed e.g. in a zombie?) Did she fear for herself? Did she genuinely think that she was in danger? Understood that it was a joke? Was she doing trick or treat? Was she wearing a costume? Headphones?
The man was doing his job right?

Someone she had seen previously? Yes (briefly) --> did she see them in face? Wearing a coatume? Far from the room? Did she feel afraid when she saw them the first time? Was she with the man? The something the girl saw: something scarying because of the immediate impact? Something scarying that if not revealed would have remained scaried and plausible (e.g. men with weapons)? Something that was disgusting and scarying (e.g. fake operation with the blood spread all over the room?)? Did the ones inside the room have the same job as the man? If so, was the joke connected to that job? Did they make the job also to other children? Adults? Did they relevantly work with children? Was she the daughter of someone relevantly?

Did the man let her believe that there were ghosts in the house? I mean...real ghosts? Did she hear relevant sounds in the first room? If so did they come from the other room? Did the man fake to be afraid as well?

Did they organize parties? Jokes? Gifts? Are they actors? Was the man faking to threatening her? To kidnao her? To have bad intentions?

Did they wear masks? If so the same mask everyone? Was the room the room of a generic house? Relevant the building in which the room was? The building where such people used to work? Is it common to find them in such a building? Are her parents involved? Are they afraid as well? Did they arrange the joke?

Did they make the joke to other people also? Didbthey eventually revealed their identities? Did they scream as well when the girl went inside the second room? Is it relevant which costumes they wore? Ghost costumes? Masks of death people? Did they have relevant make up? Did she see them in other rooms? We know that the joke was connected to their job...but was it part of it? E.g. they worked as make-up artists; youtubers? Video-maker? (E.g. it was part of a movie)

Did they usually work with the man? Did they work in haunted houses also in other days than halloween? If so, do they usually wear a costume?
Is the haunted house a sort of museum/historical house? Do they live there? Adams family relevant? Edgar Allan Poe? Is their job in the haunted house: to keep it clean? To host people (e.g. a bed and breakfast/hotel)? To keep people away from it? To run a business? To sell items? To educate people?

Are there other similar haunted houses? Ghost hunters relevant? Are hell houses relevant?

The girl was their customer = she was directly their customers or was customer of the organization (e.g. amusement park?) to which they belonged?

Are amusement parks relevant? Did they work in circus? Pub? Theater? Charity associations? In the same place? Is advertising relevant? Are pictures taken/video of the experience recorded? Did they eventually reveal their identity? Relevant? Did they mainly entertain people by doing jokes to them? By recreating relevant experiences? By making whaat customers require them to do? By serving them? By listening to them? By organizing events for them? Relevant where the other customers were when the joke was performed? Did they know that the joke would have been made? To the girl?

Do they have the same identical task in the job they made? The girl is a customer right? As a customer, did she expect to be involved in a joke? In that particular joke? Did she ask for it? Did someone else? CAN THE JOKE BE CONSIDERED A "SERVICE" MADE TO THE CUSTOMER (= the girl? To another customer?) ? Hiccup relevant? Trick or treat relevant? Relevant how many people was wearing a mask? inside the room More than 5? HAM? HAF? Were they famous? Once the joke was done, was their job over? Video surveillance cameras relevant?

Are there other similar haunted houses? Yes --> are there people with their same job working inside them as well? Did they reproduce relevant movies? Did someone (a part from the man and them) relevantly hear her screaming? Expect her to scream?

Relevant how she met with the man? By convincing her? Or she already knew she had to follow him? Did the man force her to follow him? Asked her? Told her that there was an emergency? Told her to know someone she knew as well? Relevant where she met the man? On the street? Inside a building? Inside the house? Was the girl already in the house when the joke took place? Somewhere else? Relevant? Relevant where the haunted house was? In an amusement park? Was the girl already in the house when the joke was organized? Was the joke organized days before? Improvised? To be sure...did they intend to do the joke or it happened by chance?

The girl was their customer = she was directly their customers or was customer of the organization (e.g. amusement park?) to which they belonged? Either. The puzzle works if the haunted house was independent or run by another organization.

Are amusement parks relevant? Not necessarily - see above Did they work in circus? Pub? Theater? Charity associations? They worked in the haunted house In the same place? Yes Is advertising relevant? No Are pictures taken/video of the experience recorded? Irrel
Did they eventually reveal their identity? Relevant? Did they mainly entertain people by doing jokes to them? By recreating relevant experiences? By making whaat customers require them to do? By serving them? By listening to them? By organizing events for them? No/Irrel to all of them
Relevant where the other customers were when the joke was performed? Yes - somewhere in the haunted house Did they know that the joke would have been made? To the girl? No to both

Do they have the same identical task in the job they made? Similar, not exactly the sameThe girl is a customer right? Yes As a customer, did she expect to be involved in a joke? Not necessarily, but possibly In that particular joke? No Did she ask for it? No Did someone else? No CAN THE JOKE BE CONSIDERED A "SERVICE" MADE TO THE CUSTOMER I'm going to say Yope (= the girl? Arguably To another customer?) ? Also possibly Hiccup relevant? No Trick or treat relevant? No, but OTRT Relevant how many people was wearing a mask? Not exactly inside the room More than 5? Exact number irrel, but probably less than five HAM? HAF? Could be either Were they famous? No Once the joke was done, was their job over? No Video surveillance cameras relevant? No

Are there other similar haunted houses? Yes --> are there people with their same job working inside them as well? Yes Did they reproduce relevant movies? Some of them do, but those particular ones aren't relevant to the puzzle Did someone (a part from the man and them) relevantly hear her screaming? One person - don't worry about the other "them"s, only the man Expect her to scream? Same one person

Relevant how she met with the man? Yes By convincing her? Or she already knew she had to follow him? No to both Did the man force her to follow him? Asked her? Told her that there was an emergency? Told her to know someone she knew as well? No to these Relevant where she met the man? Yes On the street? Inside a building? Inside the house? This Was the girl already in the house when the joke took place? Yes Somewhere else? Relevant? Yes Relevant where the haunted house was? Not really In an amusement park? Possibly Was the girl already in the house when the joke was organized? See next Was the joke organized days before? Improvised? This To be sure...did they intend to do the joke or it happened by chance? Wasn't planned in advance

Is the girl's age relevant? The age(s) of anyone else who entered the house with her?
Before leaving the room, does the man say something to her? About something else that's in the room? About something that is in another part of the house? Something in the next room or hall? Something that she needs to look for?
Does the man lead the girl out of the room because she doesn't know how to get out without help? Because she can't see an exit? Because something is distracting her? Because she is waiting for someone or something?
Is there another relevant person in the room with the girl? A relevant object? A relevant noise? A relevant situation?

Did the man take the girl’s hand in the dark, pretending to be her father (who had accompanied her) and she screamed when they got into the next room and she realized that he wasn’t her father and that he was a scary-looking ghoul or whatever?

Did the man take the girl’s hand in the dark, pretending to be her father (who had accompanied her) and she screamed when they got into the next room and she realized that he wasn’t her father and that he was a scary-looking ghoul or whatever? It wasn't her father, but Yes, exactly!

****SPOILER****

The girl was afraid of clowns. Upon walking into a room in the haunted house filled with clowns, she closed her eyes and asked her cousin to take her outside. But one of the clowns grabbed her hand instead and led her out, so when the girl opened her eyes...
