A hungry man sat at the table with a delicious meal on a plate in front of him. He took two mouthfuls and then stopped eating. Why?

Was the meal only two mouthfuls big? Were his mouthfuls of unusual size? Were they defined by someone else's mouth? An animal mouth? Did he want to stop eating? Was he unable to eat more? Did he chew the mouthfuls? Swallow them? Enjoy them? Digest them? Did he choke? Get poisoned? Die? Get threatened? Was he human? Adult? Did he take two mouthfuls at once? Was he only allowed two mouthfuls? Was he still hungry after having taken them? Was he dieting? Was he distracted? Interrupted? Relevant what happened to the rest of the meal, if there was any? If so, was it: eaten later? Eaten by someone else? By something else? Left? Discarded? Decomposed? Relevant why he was hungry? How hungry he was? WAG: did he have a gastric bypass? Other operation? A medical condition? Was he practicing discipline? Fasting? Other religious or spiritual practice? Was he being punished?

Was he forced to stop? Other humans involved? Animal(s) (except as food)? Did he choose to stop? Did he have a choice to keep eating? If so, was it a better choice for him not to? Did he stop in order to gain something? Trick someone? Did he stop for selfish reasons? Altruistic? Both? Neither? Relevant what was in the meal? Pain relevant? Other discomfort? A threat? A risk? Did he eat at home? At work? A restraurant? On the street? At someone else's home? Manners relevant? Politeness? When he took the first mouthful, was he already intending to stop after the second one? Already knowing that he might stop after the second one? Would the puzzle work with just one mouthful? Three?

Is he interrupted by something?

Is he communicating with someone during the meal? If so, with someone at the same table?

Is he supposed to eat something else?

Ha he broken some protocol? Is there a dignatory present?

Did he have to stop because the dignitary stopped? Is the dignitary the king/queen? Another head of state? Is he at a state function? Is he just following protocol?

Trebor,

Did he have to stop because the dignitary stopped?
YES

Is the dignitary the king/queen?
YES

Well done. Close enough for a SPOILER

The man was at a state banquet hosted by the Queen of England. She is always served first. There were many guests and he was served last (or close to). The protocol is that everyone stops eating when the Queen stops and folds her napkin. He only had time for two mouthfuls before he had to stop eating.
